18TH CENTURY, DOCUMENTED, CARVED BOARDED OAK CHEST

Gower, Glamorgan, Wales, 1706

Featuring a one-piece top with chip-carved ends and moulded front edge, the top with a central flower flanked by initials 'IE' and the date 1706, the front frieze shallow carved with radiating flower motifs, the sides descending to V-shaped cut-away supports.


This exact chest can be found in the stated book below and is a fine example of carving from the Gower peninsula.
